English language visa requirements

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​English language requirements generally apply to applicants wanting to study or work in Australia.

You will need to check the eligibility page for the visa subclass you wish to apply for, to see what level of English you need and what evidence you must provide.

The Department accepts scores from the following tests undertaken at a secure test centre for English language visa requirements: ​(이민성에서 인정해 주는 영어성적들)

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including One Skill Retake (OSR)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE)
  • Cambridge English (CAE) (also known as C1 Advanced)
  • Occupational English Test (OET), noting this is a test developed for health professionals
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) -> (2024년 5월 5일 부터 시험 인정)

From 14 December 2022, IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) will be available for certain test takers. OSR allows test takers to retake one of the four test components in either reading, writing, speaking or listening (once only).

For Australian visa purposes, the Department will accept IELTS test results that include OSR, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which need scores from a single sitting/attempt.​

From 12 February 2024, only results from the paper-based Cambridge C1 Advanced test (previously known as Cambridge English: Advanced CAE) will be accepted for Australian visa and migration purposes.

Test scores for both C1 Advanced paper-based and computer-based tests, taken before 12 February 2024, within the specified validity period (see relevant eligibility pages linked below), are still accepted.

TOEFL iBT tests that were completed between 26 July 2023 and 4 May 2024 will not be accepted for Australian visa and migration purposes. During this period, the TOEFL iBT test ​being offered was not an approved test.

At-home or online English language tests​

Some test provide​rs offer alternative versions of their tests that you can take at home or online, such as TOEFL iBT – Home Edition, OET@Home, PTE Academic Online, IELTS Online (General and Academic) and IELTS Indicator.​

Home Affairs does not accept scores from these tests, or any other ‘at-home’ or ‘​online’ tests for Australian migration purposes.​

대학에 입학을 하고 싶은데 영어성적이 낮거나 하여 바로 해당 대학에 입학을 못하는 유학생들을 위해서 일정한 코스를 (잘) 마치면 영어성적이 낮거나 면제를 통해서 대학 (학사) 코스를 다닐 수 있도록 각대학에서 만든 일종의 foundation 코스 같은 것을 2024년 4월 20일 부터 적용한다고 합니다. 유학을 하시는 분들 중에 언어 능력이 다소 준비가 안된 분들은 참고하세요.

 

Migration (English Language Tests and Evidence Exemptions for Subclass 500 (Student) Visa) Amendment (Pathway Programs) Specification 2024 amends Migration (English Language Tests and Evidence Exemptions for Subclass 500 (Student) Visa) Instrument (LIN 24/022) 2024 to specify the definition of eligible pathway program and to specify the list of registered courses that are an eligible pathway program for the purposes of LIN 24/022.

Only pathway programs specified in this amendment instrument will meet the definition of an eligible pathway program for the purposes of LIN 24/022. Applicants enrolled in an eligible pathway program which is acceptable under the instrument will be able to meet the lower English language test score

Members should refer to the instrument for the list of registered courses that can be used under the eligible pathway program as per LIN 24/022.

This instrument commenced on 20 April 2024. The instrument shows as no longer in force as it is an amendment instrument which has served its purpose by making changes to LIN 24/022. The changes made by this instrument will be compiled into LIN 24/022 and be available on the Federal Register of Legislation in due course.

안녕하세요.

 

어제도 소멸된 영주비자를 잘 부활(?) 시킨 케이스가 있어서 간단히 안내드립니다.

 

어린 나이에 부모따라 영주비자를 받았지만 초기 입국과 몇번의 호주 관광차 영주비자를 사용했지 실제 거주한 것은 한달도 안된 상태. 비자 만기는 오래전에 되었습니다. 그러나 이젠 성인이 되어 대학에 입학을 할 나이가 된 자녀의 영주비자를 다시 살릴 수 있을지 상담을 요청해 오셨습니다.

앞뒤 정황을 보고 가능성이 높다고 판단하고 상담을 드렸습니다. 그리고 1월에 비자 신청을 했고요. 추가 자료요청이 있었으며 접수 3개월이 지나 좋은 소식 (RRV 1년짜리)를 원하는 것만큼 승인이 되었습니다.

 

한번 승인된 영주비자는 잘 이용하시면 차후 5년짜리 영주비자도 받게 됩니다. 그리고 원하시면 시민권도 받을 수 있답니다.

 

부유한 집안은 자녀의 유학비를 학생비자로 와서 지불하고 지낼 수 있습니다. 부유함을 떠나 과거 영주비자를 받은 분들 그런데 사정이 있어 10년 +/- 전에 이미 만기되었다면 상담을 받아 보세요. 소정의 비용이 있고 그런 다음 가능성 판단해 드리고요. 그 후에 업무 대행을 맡기실 경우 제 가족의 업무 처럼 대행해 드립니다.

학생비자 및 졸업비자 영어성적 상향 및 영어성적유효기간 변경

학생비자 및 유학후 신청하는 졸업비자의 영어성적이 2024년 3월 23일 부터 요구조건이 상향된다고 합니다. 부수적으로 졸업비자를 신청하는 분의 경우 영어성적 유효기간도 3년에서 1년으로 줄어듬에 유의해야 합니다. 아래 자료는 이민법무사 협회 (MIA)에서 이민법무사들에게 제공되는 내용으로 물맑은 호주를 방문해 주시는 고객님들과 함께 공유합니다. 

Student visas (sc 500): (학생비자를 신청할 경우)

  • The minimum test score for the for the English proficiency requirement increases from International English language Testing System (IELTS) 5.5. to 6.0 (or equivalent)
  • The minimum score to undertake a packaged English Language Intenstive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) course increases from IELTS 4.5 to 5.0 (or equivalent)
  • Students undertaking recognised university foundation or pathway programs that deliver reputable English language training require a score of IELTS 5.5. (or equivalent) these recognised courses will be listed on the Department’s website.
  • For students studying English only through ELICOS, there will be no change

Temporary Graduate visas (졸업비자를 신청할 분들의 경우)

  • The minimum score required increases from IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 (or equivalent) with a minimum score of 5.5 for each component of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
  • Passport holders from Hong Kong and British National Overseas (BNO) are not required to meet this increases minimum English language requirement. The settings for this cohort remains at IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent), with a minimum score of 5.0 for each component of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
  • The test validity window for all Temporary Graduate visa applications decreases from three years to one year. Applicants must provide evidence that they have completed an English language test no more than one year immediately before the date of the visa application. 

Despite the document stating that these changes commence on 23 March 2024, there are currently no legislative instruments released on the Federal Register of Legislation that bring these changes into effect. Members are advised to monitor the Federal Register for these instruments. The MIA will keep members informed once the instruments are released.

2024년 3월 23일 또는 그 이후로 학생비자 (SC 500)를 신청하고자 하는 분들은 기존의 GTE에서 GS (Genuine Student) 임을 보여줘야 합니다. 그 전에 제출한 분들은 기존의 GTE를 소급적용 받습니다. GTE는 가디언 비자를 신청하는 분들은 만족을 계속 해야 합니다. 아래 해당 부분 각각 참고할 수 있도록 MIA 협회에서 RMA (이민법무사) 에게 제공한 자료를 공유합니다.

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) replaced with Genuine Student (GS) for student visas (sc 500)

On Friday afternoon the Department of Home Affairs sent an email to Education providers highlighting changes to the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement for student visas (sc 500).

As announced in the Migration Strategy released on 11 December 2023, the GTE requirement applicable to student visas (sc 500) is being replaced with a Genuine Student (GS) requirement.

The  new GS requirement will have target questions that will provide decision makers with an overview of the applicant and their reasons for wanting to study in Australia.

The intended questions will cover:

  • details of their current circumstances, including ties to family, community, employment and economic circumstances; (자신의 현 여건)
  • an explanation for the choice of course and reasons for choosing Australia as a study destination; (코스선택 이유 및 호주를 선택한 이유)
  • what benefits the course provides to the applicant; (코스 이득)
  • for applicants with a study history in Australia, details of their study history; (유학 경험)
  • for applicants holding a visa other than a Student visa, their reasons for applying for a student visa; and (다른 비자 소지하다 학생비자 신청하는 이유)
  • any other relevant information the applicant wishes to provide (제공하고 싶은 다른 정보)

The GS requirement is planned to commence for student visa applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024. Student visa application lodged before 23 March 2024 will be assessed according to existing arrangements. 

The GTE requirement will be retained for Student Guardian (sc 590) visa applications. 

The student visa declaration will be amended to require applicants to confirm that they:

  • understand what it means to be a genuine student for the purposes of studying in Australia;
  • have read, understand and commit to comply with student visa conditions and to notify the Department of Home Affairs of any changes to their circumstances; and
  • understand that while post-study pathways to permanent migration are available, only a limited number of graduates will be eligible and those who are unable to remain lawfully in Australia must depart Australia.

As part of the changes Ministerial Direction 69 will be revoked and replaced by two new ministerial directions, which will reflect the intention for the GS requirement to apply after the intended commencement date of 23 March 2024; and then to ensure that the GTE assessment applies to applications that have been lodged and not yet decided before 23 March 2024.

2024년 12월에 189 및 491 비자를 위해서 초대발행이 있었습니다. 189 비자를 위해서 8300건정도였고요. 491 비자는 79건 이었습니다.  직업군을 보면 대부분 health and medical professional 이라는 점이 특징적이었습니다. 대한민국에서 RN으로 일하시는 분들은 잘 살펴 보시기 바랍니다. 점수가 65점이면 대부분 초대 받을 수 있는 점수라는 점입니다. (한가지 Development Disability만 70점입니다) 따라서, 본인의 최대 189 점수가 65점 또는 그 이상이 되고 있다면 초대 받을 가능성이 높다는 것입니다.

QLD 주정부에서 491 비자를 위해 자격이 되는 분들은 우선처리 신청을 하라고 메일이 왔습니다. 그내용을 그대로 공유하면서 향후 491 비자를 고려하는 분들께 조언드립니다.

 

보시면 아시겠습니다. 오늘부터 5일간 한시적으로 우선처리 대상자의 조건을 보면 우선 QLD 지방에 거주하고 근무하고 있을 것 그리고 EOI 제출할때 QLD 지방에서 또 다른 6개월을 일하는 고용관계가 유지되고 있어야 한다는 점 마지막 QLD 주정부에서 요구하는 요구조건을 만족할 것 입니다 (영어 IELTS 기준 6.0 x 4 (최소) 만족하고 주당 최소 30시간 근무 중이며 향후 6개월 이상 더 고용관계가 있음을) 증빙하는 서류 및 모든 준비서류가 되어 있어야 합니다.

REGISTER FOR CONSIDERATION OF PRIORITY PROCESSING

 

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa

(subclass 491) applicants in regional Queensland

 

Migration Queensland invites onshore Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) applicants living in regional Queensland, and who meet Queensland’s skilled nomination criteria to register for consideration of priority processing.

 

Eligible applicants can register their details with Migration Queensland for consideration of priority processing from Friday 23 February – Tuesday 27 February 2024.

 

Applicants must: 

 

1. Provide a decision-ready application (i.e. all documents must be ready to upload immediately upon invitation)

 

2. Currently be living and working in regional Queensland

 

3. Have ongoing, full-time employment in regional Queensland for a further six months at time of EOI lodgement

 

4. Meet all other Queensland nomination criteria for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). Please review skilled criteria here: MQ – Skilled workers living in Queensland (migration.qld.gov.au)

 

 

Additional notes:

  • This is for people genuinely interested in a 491 nomination. If you are nominated for a Skilled Work Regional 491 visa, Migration Queensland will not nominate you for the Skilled Nominated Permanent 190 visa. Requests for a change of nomination from 491 to 190 will not be responded to.
  • Applicants for Graduates of a Queensland University who meet the requirements of the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) are encouraged to register for priority processing.
  • This is a targeted campaign to seek expressions of interest for decision-ready applications. Registering your interest does not guarantee a nomination, as places are still very limited and the process remains competitive.
  • If your application does not meet Queensland criteria, or is not decision ready, it will be closed.
  • Migration Queensland continues to process other pathways within our skilled nomination allocation for the 2023 – 2024 financial year.

ACS 기술심사 시스템이 업그레이드 될 것이라고 오늘 관련 메일을 수신했습니다.

 

따라서, 현재 접수를 이미 한분들은 아무 관계없이 기존의 절차대로 진행이 될 것이며 아직 접수를 하지 않은 경우 접수를 하라고 합니다.

 

2024년 3월 부터 새로운 시스템으로 전환하면 신청인은 3개의 ANZSCO code를 지정할 수 있다고 합니다. 대신 신청비가 대폭 인상된다는 점입니다.

 

Clients who wish to reapply for a skills assessment may do so through the new ACS Migration Skills Assessment following its launch in March 2024. Under the new skills assessment, a client may be able to nominate up to three ANZSCO codes for a new fixed price. 

아래와 같이 신청비가 인상될 것이라고 ACS 기술심사 기관에서 알려 옴.

 

기술심사 신청하실 분들중에 2월 말까지 접수를 할 수 있다면 기존의 신청비로 제출할 수 있고 그렇지 않으면 인상된 신청비를 지불해야 할 듯 합니다.
