Migration Skills Assessment
The Migration Skills Assessment Program (MSA) is for applicants applying for a permanent skilled migration visa with the Department of Home Affairs.

It is an evidence based assessment of your qualification/s and employment history to determine comparability with Australian standards for a skilled worker in your nominated occupation.

You do not apply for the Migration Skills Assessment Program if you are:

an applicant from a specified country of passport and occupation, which requires a skills assessment under the Offshore Skills Assessment Program

applying under one of the following licensed occupations: Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic, Electrician (General), Electrician (Special Class) and Plumber (General). Please refer to the Offshore Skills Assessment Program

applying for a 485 visa - Please refer to the Job Ready Program

applying for a Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa - please refer to the Temporary Skills Shortage Skills Assessment Program.

The Migration Skills Assessment program is for migration purposes only. A successful Migration Skills Assessment outcome does not result in the awarding of an Australian qualification and cannot be used for employment, licensing or qualification recognition purposes. If you wish to be assessed for an Australian qualification, you can choose to apply for a skills assessment through the Offshore Skills Assessment Program. More information about the Offshore Skills Assessment Program can be found here.

Eligibility
You are eligible to apply for the Migration Skills Assessment program if your nominated occupation is:

listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Short-term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) on the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) website and with Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) as the relevant skills assessing authority.

child care centre manager and you are intending to apply for an Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) - for all other visa types for this occupation please contact ACECQA for a skills assessment.

directly relevant to your qualification and/or apprenticeship

directly relevant to your employment.

You must check with Department of Home Affairs before submitting your application to ensure your visa pathway requires a skills assessment, and that Trades Recognition Australia is the correct assessing authority for your nominated occupation.

Please read the Migration Skills Assessment Applicant Guidelines before submitting an application to ensure you meet the program application and eligibility requirements.

Payments for the Migration Skills Assessment Program can be made online by Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card through the Trades Recognition Australia Online Portal. Trades Recognition Australia will not refund the above fees if you decide to withdraw your application once assessment has commenced.

When you use the Trades Recognition Australia Online Portal, a payment summary containing a customer reference number and receipt number will be produced. A payment receipt will also be emailed to the email address provided in the application.
